The best players on North American hard courts

  • ausopen.com

Depending on the metric you choose, there are many potential title chances at the US Open.

The North American summer hard court season – which began in late July with the ATP event in Atlanta – was a fruitful time for several players, who have gathered momentum ahead of the year’s final Grand Slam tournament.

No player won more hard-court matches during this period than Paula Badosa.

No player earned more ranking points than Jessica Pegula, the only player to reach multiple finals during the swing – and at the 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati, no less.

No player earned more top-10 wins than Alexei Popyrin, who beat three such opponents en route to his first Masters title in Montreal.

Will their sizzling form help them outperform defending US Open champions Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff? Or world No.1s Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek? Or the most recent major winners Carlos Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova, who triumphed at Wimbledon?

We shall see what unfolds at this most open of US Opens, beginning this week.

But if lead-up form influences your title predictions, then check out these numbers from the North American hard-court season, brought to you in partnership with Stats Perform.
