The Australian Open 2025 is set to make history with the inaugural AO Pickleball Slam, running from 24-26 January.
This will be the first professional pickleball tournament conducted during a Grand Slam event, with a $100,000 prize pool on offer and the transformation of Court 3 into a hub of high-energy Pickleball action.
As one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong into a fast-paced game that’s easy to pick up and entertaining to watch.
The AO Pickleball Slam will showcase an elite roster of international and domestic talent, from rising stars to seasoned champions.
Fans can look forward to standout performances from athletes such as Danni-Elle Townsend, one of Australia’s highest-ranked pickleball players, along with international stars Armaan Bhatia and Harsh Mehta (IND), Cyril Peltier and Caroline Dhenin (FRA) and Zack Taylor (USA).
“This is an exciting moment for pickleball and the Australian Open,” AO Pickleball Slam Tournament Director Callum Beale said.
“Hosting a professional pickleball tournament during a Grand Slam symbolises our investment in the sport. Its rapid growth and unique appeal bring a fresh and inclusive dimension to the Australian Open, and we can’t wait to showcase it to fans from around the world.
“The tournament is set to draw significant attention, blending intense competition with the community spirit that defines pickleball and will be a great addition to the Australian Open.”
Beyond the on-court action, fans will have the chance to immerse themselves in the game with hands-on opportunities to play pickleball.
“Pickleball is a sport for everyone, and its growth highlights its power to bring people together,” added Beale.
“From casual players to seasoned competitors, pickleball’s focus on fun, movement, and connection makes it a perfect addition to the Australian Open’s ethos as the ‘Happy Slam.’”
The introduction of pickleball at the Australian Open reflects Tennis Australia’s commitment to leading the growth and development of racquet and paddle sports, offering a diverse range of related competitions, coaching pathways, and club initiatives.
Fans can also pick up a paddle to try out Pickleball, Padel and POP Tennis during the AO, ensuring fans can experience the future of racquet sports firsthand.
Fans can access the slam with a ground pass.
