Day 1 schedule: Sabalenka headlines first night session

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and men’s No.2 seed Alexander Zverev open their AO 2025 campaigns as main draw play gets under way on Sunday from 11.00am AEDT.

Fifth seed in the women’s draw, Zheng Qinwen opens proceedings at Rod Laver Arena at 11.30am AEDT against qualifier Anca Todoni, followed by men’s No.6 seed Casper Ruud who faces Spain’s Jaume Munar.

Women’s No.1 seed Sabalenka headlines the first night session of the tournament at Rod Laver Arena when she meets Sloane Stephens. After that, Zverev will take to the court in a bid to hold off French wildcard Lucas Pouille. 

Over at Margaret Court Arena, Australian fans will be able to cheer on Li Tu as he faces Czech No.24 seed Jiri Lehecka. Both night sessions start at 7.00pm AEDT.

John Cain Arena’s twilight session starts at 5.00pm AEDT as eleventh seed Paula Badosa gets her AO 2025 campaign under way against China’s Wang Xinyu. 

Other highlights around the grounds on Day 1 include big hitter Reilly Opelka, fresh from his defeat of Novak Djokovic in Brisbane, second up at Kia Arena. And qualifier Hady Habib, the first Lebanese player to compete in a Grand Slam singles event since 1962, plays second on Court 6.
