Aryna Sabalenka has become just the seventh woman this century to reach the quarterfinals at six consecutive Grand Slam tournaments.
And she could join a very select group if she beats Barbora Krejcikova in Tuesday night’s quarterfinal at Rod Laver Arena.

Sabalenka has stormed into the last eight at Australian Open 2024, dropping a total of just 11 games in flattening Ella Seidel, Brenda Fruhvirtova, Lesia Tsurenko and Amanda Anisimova – all straight-sets wins.
It’s proof of Sabalenka’s ongoing evolution into the game’s strongest, most consistent force at the game’s biggest events.

Prior to Australian Open 2024, she reached the quarterfinal stage at all four majors in 2023, as well as the 2022 US Open.

Since 2000, only six other women – Serena and Venus Williams, Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport, Martina Hingis and Amelie Mauresmo – have advanced to the quarterfinals at six consecutive majors.

Sabalenka is in fine company, considering these names are associated with a golden age of women’s tennis.
We must wait until Roland Garros in June to see if Sabalenka can extend her quarterfinal streak to seven majors. But what we already know is that she’s so far unstoppable when she gets to this stage of a Grand Slam tournament.
Krejcikova confronts an opponent who is a perfect 7-0 in Grand Slam quarterfinals, with all seven of those victories coming in straight sets.
The only other woman to win their first seven major quarterfinals in the Open era is Chris Evert.
Sabalenka has also beaten Krejcikova in five of their six career meetings.
Should those trends continue, Sabalenka would become just the third woman this century, after Jennifer Capriati and Serena Williams, to reach six consecutive major semifinals.

Interestingly, Capriati’s semifinal streak, plus both of Serena’s, included ultimate triumphs at the Australian Open.
This could be a good omen for Sabalenka as she looks to add a second AO trophy to her cabinet.
