Kerry (Melville) Reid

Hall of Fame

Inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame in 2014.

Reid, nee Melville, was the Australian Open women’s singles champion in 1977 and also collected the women’s doubles title that year, adding to her 1968 crown.

The New South Wales-born player reached the semifinal or better at all four Grand Slams throughout her career, with her ranking peaking at No.5. She was a staple in the top 10 for 12 consecutive years between 1968 and 1979, in an era when Margaret Court, Billie Jean King, Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Chris Evert were dominating.

Reid was a member of Australia’s Federation Cup winning team in 1968 and also featured in four consecutive finals from 1976 to 1979. She finished her career with a 37-10 win-loss record, making her one of Australia’s most successful players ever in the team competition.
