Everything you need to know about the AO Pickleball Slam

  • ausopen.com

The AO Pickleball Slam is set to make waves as one of the most exciting additions to the Australian Open 2025.

With six teams named after Melbourne’s iconic laneways, a unique format, and a star-studded lineup of players, the event promises thrilling action and an inclusive, community-focused spirit.

The AO Pickleball Slam is a professional tournament, with players selectively invited to compete on this prestigious stage. With AU$100,000 on the line, players will be shaking up the court and the competition is set to be fierce.

Before you grab your ground pass and head to Court 3 January 24-26, brush up on the rules for one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

How it works

Each of the six teams features four players—two men and two women—who will compete in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches.

The tournament begins with a round-robin stage, where each team will face off against every other team in a series of ties.

Each tie consists of a range of playing formats, ensuring plenty of variety and opportunities for players to showcase their skills.

At the end of the round-robin stage, the two highest-ranked teams will advance to the finals.

Rankings are determined first by the number of ties won, followed by games won, and then total points won, making every point and every game crucial.  A win equals 4 points, a draw 2, and a loss 0.

The focus on individual points ensures every game matters, keeping fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

The AO Pickleball Slam is not just a competition—it’s a celebration of one of the world’s fastest-growing sports. With its inclusive format and focus on fun, this event perfectly complements the Australian Open’s reputation as the “Happy Slam.”

Fans can look forward to high-energy matches, fierce rivalries, and a format that guarantees excitement. Whether you’re a pickleball enthusiast or new to the game, the AO Pickleball Slam is the event to watch this summer.

Stay tuned for updates on schedules, players, and more as we count down to this groundbreaking tournament at Melbourne Park.
