Defending champs highlight Day 1 schedule

Defending champions Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka will take centre-stage as the Australian Open commences on a Sunday for the first time in the tournament's history, with the 10-time men's champion and first-time major winner headlining the Rod Laver Arena night session on Day 1.

Top seed Djokovic opens his title defence against Croatian qualifier Dino Prizmic at 7pm AEDT, while Sabalenka, the No. 2 seed, plays German qualifier Ella Seidel in the second match.

The RLA day session features men's fourth seed Jannik Sinner, who plays Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, while women's No.8 seed Maria Sakkari (Greece) takes on Japan's Nao Hibino.

Margaret Court Arena action features women's ninth seed Barbora Krejcikova and men's fifth seed Andrey Rublev during the day session.

AO 2018 champion Caroline Wozniacki plays 20th seed Magda Linette (Poland) to open the night session at 7pm AEDT, with men's 17th seed Frances Tiafoe (USA) and Croatia's Borna Coric to follow.
