  • ausopen.com

The entry lists have been released for Adelaide International 2 and the Hobart International, with stellar fields set for the Australian Open 2023 lead-in events.

Australia’s top-ranked man Nick Kyrgios, plus the world’s top four-ranked women Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, Jessica Pegula and Caroline Garcia are set to play Adelaide International 2 at The Drive from 9-14 January 2023.

The news comes after a brilliant playing list was unveiled for Adelaide International 1, including Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Victoria Azarenka.

Meanwhile, the Hobart International has released its playing field for the 2023 tournament, a list headlined by former champions Sofia Kenin and Elise Mertens.

Kyrgios, Swiatek, Jabeur, Pegula, Garcia to play Adelaide 2

This is the first time Kyrgios will play an ATP 250 event in Adelaide, which is home to his good friend and doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Kyrgios joins the likes of world No.8 Andrey Rublev, Lorenzo Musetti, Dan Evans and Sebastian Korda in the men’s singles field.

“I have heard good things about the tournament and the upgraded venue at The Drive,” said Kyrgios, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist.

“I am looking forward to playing in Adelaide. My good friend Thanasi had a great run last year in front of his home crowd and I hope I can enjoy the same success and support in January.”

Garcia enjoyed her best season on tour in 2022, reaching her first Grand Slam singles semifinal at the US Open.

“Adelaide is a great tournament for me to play leading into the Australian Open. The field is always strong and I know the people of Adelaide love their tennis,” Garcia said.

Bouzkova, Cornet add star power in Hobart

World No.24 Marie Bouzkova (CZE) and former champion Alize Cornet (FRA) lead a strong field for the 28th edition of the Hobart International in 2023, joining the previously-announced two-time winner Mertens and AO 2020 champion Kenin.

Bouzkova is set to make her second visit to Hobart, having made her tournament debut in 2020. The 24-year-old Czech returns after an incredible season, which saw her ranking rise to a career-high world No.24 this month after reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals and claiming her first WTA singles title in her birth city of Prague.

Cornet is a fan favourite in Hobart after making her tournament debut in 2010 and memorably capturing the 2016 title.

The world No.36 enjoyed her best Grand Slam run yet at Australian Open 2022, eliminating former world No.1s Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep in her charge into a first major quarterfinal. Cornet also upset current world No.1 Iga Swiatek to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon this season.

The Hobart International’s reputation for unearthing rising stars of the game looks set to continue, with 10 players in the 2023 field – including rising 21-year-old Wang Xiyu (CHN) and the trailblazing Mayar Sherif (EGY) – achieving career-high rankings this season.

Germany’s Laura Siegemund, plus Romanians Jaqueline Cristian and Patricia Maria Tig, have used special rankings to enter the draw.

“The quality of the Hobart International 2023 field is deep in new talent, which is exciting for us, and for the fans, to see the emerging stars in the game,” Hobart International Tournament Director Darren Sturgess said.

“We are thrilled to have former champions Elise Mertens, Alize Cornet and Sofia Kenin returning in 2023 and to have some of the world’s best female athletes, including seven top-50 players, playing in Tasmania is something we’re very proud to showcase to the local community.”
