Former world No.1s Marat Safin and Lleyton Hewitt will rekindle their rivalry when they return to the courts of Melbourne to play in the AO Legends Cup presented by Marriott Bonvoy.
Tennis fans long remember when the pair faced off at Melbourne Park in the epic Australian Open 2025 final, which Safin won after four gruelling sets.
Hewitt heads an Australian line-up boasting former two-time US Open champion Patrick Rafter and Wimbledon finalist Mark Philippoussis that will take on the rest-of-the-world team of Safin, Tommy Haas and fan favourite Marcos Baghdatis.
Angelique Kerber, returning to Melbourne 10 years after winning the Australian Open in 2016, is joined in the women’s field by former top-10 players Daniela Hantuchova and Andrea Petkovic against Australia’s Samantha Stosur, Alicia Molik and Casey Dellacqua.
The AO Legends Cup presented by Marriott Bonvoy has become a hugely popular event at the AO and gets bigger and better every year.
“We are very excited to have such a strong field of Australian and international tennis players returning to Melbourne Park for the AO Legends Cup presented by Marriott Bonvoy,” the Legends tournament director Andre Sa said.
“To have two former Australian Open champions, Marat Safin and Angie Kerber, returning to play in the tournament is amazing and then add in Grand Slam winners, Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup legends, it is going to be a great few days of tennis.
“Having spoken to the players, they all can’t wait to be back playing on the show courts of Melbourne Park.”
The AO Legends Cup presented by Marriott Bonvoy will feature men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles matches across the second week of the tournament.
