Malcolm Anderson

Inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame in January 2001; Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2000; Inducted into the Queensland Sport Hall of Fame in 2009.

In 1957, Malcolm Anderson was the first unseeded player to win the US National Singles Championship. In the same year he made the final of the Australian Championships, but lost to Ashley Cooper. In 1958 he made the final of the US National Singles Championship and the Australian Championships, but lost both to Cooper.

Anderson started to play tennis at the age of eight and became serious about the game in his teenage years. He represented Australia in Davis Cup in 1957, 1958, 1972 and 1973 (Australia won in 1957 and 1973). In 1957-1958, Anderson was at his peak, reaching his career-high ranking of No.2. Also in 1957, he captured the doubles title at the French National Championships with Ashley Cooper. But it would be a further 16 years before Anderson would taste major doubles success again - this time he captured the Australian Open doubles title alongside John Newcombe in 1973.
