Djokovic passes Monfils test in draining encounter
For the 10th time in an Open Era, one player has recorded 15 or more wins over another without defeat. Novak Djokovic’s domination of Gael Monfils continues, as the Serb advances 4-6 6-3 6-1 6-3 in a gruelling match under a searing hot sun which tested both players’ resolve.
Monfils, at times, looked dead on his feet, and by the time the Serb served for the match at 5-3 in the fourth set, both players hand their hands on their knees at the back of the court. When a third match point came and went, Djokovic let off his frustration, roaring into the hot, oven-like air, but he steadied his mind (and game) to close out a hard-earned win.
Without a professional match in six months before this week, you have to admire Djokovic's peseverance. Excellent effort.
