Petkovic upsets Kvitova in thriller
Is it possible to want both players to win? When Andrea Petkovic and Petra Kvitova are the two going head-to-head it certainly is, and as they headed into extra innings in the third set the emotions were conflicted to say the least. Both players have had to overcome their own forms of adversity to put themselves in a position to produce the tennis they did today. In the end, it was Petkovic who prevailed, eventually converting on her fourth match point to win 6-3 4-6 10-8.
After a warm embrace at the net, the German let out a massive roar, part in celebration, part in relief. After opening her season with a first-round loss in Brisbane qualifying to world No.176 Polina Monova, here she was, shining on the Grand Slam stage once more.
