AO StartUps spotlight: Volta

  • ausopen.com

Fans attending concerts and live events today are very much active participants in the experience thanks to technologies like Volta XR – which transforms any stage, stream, or screen into a globally interactive experience.

As part of AO StartUps, Volta will enable fans to interact and control the visuals on the AO Live DJ LED screen, transforming them from spectators to participants.

Recognised as one of TIME Magazine's Best Inventions and ranked as the 34th best startup in the UK, Volta has collaborated on groundbreaking projects with industry leaders like Microsoft, Unity, deadmau5, Imogen Heap, Richie Hawtin, Boiler Room, and renowned festivals including Glastonbury, Outside Lands, and Lollapalooza.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the Australian Open! Our expertise in interactive entertainment, honed through large-scale live music events and streaming, has prepared us for this exciting venture into the world of sports,” said Volta Founder Alex Kane.

“We're especially excited to bring this to life at the Australian Open with an engaging interactive installation, located in one of the busiest areas on the grounds, running throughout the entire three weeks of the tournament.”

The immersive digital experiences via Volta allow fans to directly control the content from their smartphone, helping drive audience engagement in real-time.

“We see immense potential in Volta’s technology to create new dynamic fan experiences and can’t wait to see the interactivity it drives at Grand Slam Oval,” said Tennis Australia Director of Innovation Machar Reid.

The full cohort of AO StartUp companies will be announced in the leadup to AO 2025.
