Thanasi Kokkinakis, Maddison Inglis, Alex Bolt and Astra Sharma were among the players facing off in the early rounds of the new AO Tennis Series esports competition, available to watch on Australian Open's AO Twitch, YouTube and Facebook channels.

The event features pro tennis players competing in groups of four with one winner from each group advancing to the AO Tennis Series esports Final.

Four group stages have been played so far and the next round will take place today.

Adelaide’s rising stars will take to their consoles, with Edward Vo up against Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz, followed by Alex Despoja facing Jasmine Adams.

Global leader in display technology, AOC, has joined as Official Partner of the AO Tennis Series with the aim of building their profile in esports in Australia.

“The AO Tennis esport series has been a terrific creative – and competitive - outlet for our pro players while they’ve been unable to compete in tournaments, and kept them in touch with each other in a fun way within the virtual environment,” Tennis Australia’s Director of Business Development Ben Slack said.

“AO Tennis 2, with it’s incredibly lifelike graphic experience, is the richest tennis video game on the market. It’s a great way to grow the sport, both for gamers and existing fans, keeping them engaged through the high standard virtual experience.”
