Tennis superstars are a regular fixture at the Met Gala and 2023 has been no different, with Serena Williams and Roger Federer capturing headlines at the glittering event in New York.

Federer attended with wife Mirka and co-chaired the event, an annual fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.

This year’s event honoured German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

Federer’s fellow co-hosts included Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel and Penélope Cruz, as well as Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Wintour, a serious tennis fan and friend of both Federer and Williams, oversees the event, including its star-studded guest list.

Williams chose the evening as the moment to reveal she and husband Alexis Ohanian are pregnant with their second child.

In an Instagram post unveiling her outfit, Williams wrote: “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala.”

Also attending this year’s Met Gala were former world No.1 Andy Roddick and 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini.

This was Berrettini’s second appearance at the Met Gala; he first attended in 2021.

That year’s event was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was staged the day after the US Open, meaning a plethora of tennis players were invited to attend.

They included that year’s champion Emma Raducanu and finalist Leylah Fernandez, plus Felix Auger-Aliassime, Sloane Stephens, Ajla Tomljanovic, Serena and Venus Williams, and Maria Sharapova.

That year’s Met Gala was co-chaired by Naomi Osaka.

Serena co-chaired in 2019.

Caroline Wozniacki also attended the Met Gala, in 2022.
