Defending Australian Open champions Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka embark on the next stages of their Melbourne Park title defences on Friday, the men's singles first seed and women's singles second seed headlining Day 6 action at Rod Laver Arena.

MORE: Day 6 schedule of play

Djokovic, who dropped a set in each of his first two victories against Dino Prizmic and Alexei Popyrin, plays Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry to open the night session at RLA, with the 30th seed ousting veterans Andy Murray and Gael Monfils in the opening two rounds.

By contrast to Djokovic, Sabalenka's title defence has started in imposing fashion, the second seed dropping a total of six games in victories over German qualifier Ella Seidel and rising Czech teenager Brenda Fruhvirtova. Sabalenka opens the day session at RLA against 32nd seed Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, the men's seventh seed and last year's runner-up, follows Sabalenka at RLA, while women's ninth seed Barbora Krejcikova plays Australian qualifier Storm Hunter following the Djokovic/Etcheverry clash.

An intriguing meeting between American pair Coco Gauff, the women's fourth seed, and compatriot Alycia Parks is the pick of the third-round matches at Margaret Court Arena, while men's fourth seed Jannik Sinner and fifth seed Andrey Rublev also play at MCA on Friday.

Australia's top men's singles hope Alex de Minaur steps out at John Cain Arena in the night session, the 10th seed facing Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli in a bid to make the fourth round in Melbourne for the third year in succession.
