We’re rounding up the best, wildest and most talked-about moments every day of the AO, all in one place, bite-sized and easy to catch up on - so you never miss a moment.
Best shot – Daniil Medvedev
Daniil Medvedev rarely does things the conventional way, and his first-round win over Jesper de Jong was no exception.
Standing so far behind the baseline that he was barely visible on TV, Medvedev unleashed a forehand - on match point no less - that made even his opponent clap.
Best quote – Coco Gauff
Even away from the court, tennis can be an uncomfortable place. After her first-round match, Coco Gauff was asked about the awkwardness of sharing a locker room with opponents - and she didn’t hesitate to admit it can be tricky.
“It is awkward. I had an awkward one after my match. I won’t say who. I thought a person won, and they didn’t. I was like ‘Oh!’ And they were like ‘No’ and then I was like ‘Oh’”
Worst January – Felix Auger-Aliassime
Day 2 was devastating for a player who arrived on Australian soil as one of the most in-form on tour.
However, Felix Auger-Aliassime was dogged with illness throughout the United Cup, and on Tuesday began to feel left-leg cramping in the third set of his opening round match against Nuno Borges, later retiring due to the pain.
“I don't have all the answers now. I'm trying to be very professional at everything I do, prepare well… It wasn't happening in the past, so I'll have to figure it out,” he said.
“I want to be on the court winning. I want to be on the court competing with my opponent. I don't want to be just standing there, you know, like a punching bag.”
Best match – Learner Tien v Marcos Giron
American 26th seed Learner Tien kicked off his AO26 campaign in the same fashion he started AO 2025, where he reached the last 16, this time outlasting countryman Marcos Giron 7-6(2) 4-6 3-6 7-6(3) 6-2.
“Mentally, [I’m] just trying not to get ahead of myself,” he said. “With the extended format, it’s tough not to think to the future when you could be playing for an hour and a half, or four and a half.
“So, I think it’s about staying present as best I can, focusing on the point in front of me instead of thinking how long I could be on the court.”
Best stat – Coco Gauff
With her first-round 6-2 6-3 win over Kamilla Rakhimova, Coco Gauff has 75 career Grand Slam match wins, making her one of four players aged 21 or younger to hit the milestone this century.
The other three are Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams and Serena Williams.
Best crowd – Alycia Parks v Alexandra Eala
Main draw debuts at the Australian Open rarely reach the decibels they did on Court 6, when Alexandra Eala won her first set 6-0 in front of packed stands of Filipino fans brimming with excitement and energy.
Eala couldn’t hold on against American Alycia Parks, but with thousands of other fans watching on the big screens around the precinct, it shows just how excited her compatriots are about their new tennis star.
With a promising career ahead, we think the world No.49’s future at Melbourne Park might warrant a show court.
