Top chefs to cook up a storm

  • Tennis Australia

In a Grand Slam first, a premium and exclusive food experience titled the AO Chef Series will be presented in conjunction with Australian Open 2018 at The Glasshouse this summer. The AO Chef Series will bring together some of Australia’s and the world’s much loved and most respected chefs to create incredible personalised dining experiences in a series of pop-up restaurants.

The big-name chefs involved are:

·         Peter Gilmore from Sydney’s Quay and Bennelong restaurants
·         Angela Hartnett from London restaurant Murano
·         Alejandro Saravia from Melbourne restaurant Pastuso
·         Jake Nicolson from Blackbird Bar & Grill in Brisbane.

Peter Gilmore is looking forward to hosting his first ever Melbourne event, an intimate one-night-only five-course degustation menu on Wednesday 24 January. “I’m looking forward to being a part of one of Australia’s greatest sporting events and showcasing a selection of Quay’s signature dishes down in Melbourne,” Mr Gilmore said.

Acclaimed UK Michelin Star Chef Angela Hartnett, will feature her amazing five course degustation menu, based on the offerings from her award-winning London restaurant Murano, and featuring modern, seasonal Australian food with an Italian accent. “I’m super excited to be coming to Melbourne,” Ms Hartnett said. “I always cook at Wimbledon, so love the tennis side, but the real selling point is the fabulous food in Melbourne which I cannot wait to eat. We will be bringing Murano to Melbourne. It's 10 years old next year so we are putting a menu together that really shows what Murano is about.”

Alejandro Saravia will showcase the abundant fresh produce of regional Gippsland in the first viewing of Farmer’s Daughters, a personal passion, all matched perfectly with the finest local wines. “I’m super excited because after planning this for a long time, and working with a lot of different regions in Gippsland and a huge variety of produce, we are finally ready to show this, in the amazing space which is The Glasshouse,” Saravia said.

Jake Nicolson, two-hatted Executive Chef from Brisbane’s Blackbird Bar & Grill, is creating a four course degustation heritage-style Australian menu and is excited to be coming back to Melbourne.

“I’m very excited about returning to my home turf of Melbourne, especially for an event as prestigious as the tennis,” he said. “Blackbird prides itself on amazing seasonal produce, simplicity on the plate and amazing flavour. Expect the best of the season’s produce prepared simply to highlight every ingredient.”

The AO Chef Series promises to be a memorable and exclusive dining experience, right on the doorstep of the Australian Open.

“I’m very excited to introduce the first AO Chef Series – it is shaping up to be a spectacular addition to the precinct and the line-up of chefs is outstanding,” Australian Open Head of Onsite Revenue Enda Cunningham said. “Personally I am looking forward to once again working with Angela Hartnett, having worked together at Gordon Ramsay. We continue to build new experiences to complement the Australian Open, which is now truly one of the world’s biggest sports and entertainment events.”
